CULTRD

CULTRD is a cultural discovery platform designed to help people explore cultures beyond the surface—connecting users with traditions, stories, food, music, art, and experiences in a more thoughtful and meaningful way.

ROLE:

UX/UI Designer

TOOLS:

Figma · Google Forms

FOCUS:

UX Research · UI Design · Prototyping · Usability Testing

THE PROBLEM

CULTRD began from a frustration: it’s hard to find culturally specific, locally owned food when visiting new places. Travelers and locals want alternatives to chains, but small spots are hard to find. I created CULTRD to make finding cultural food easier and to help independent, community businesses get noticed.

RESEARCH & DISCOVERY

I surveyed friends and family via Google Forms to learn how people find culturally specific food and local restaurants. I organized responses in FigJam, identified themes, and turned insights into opportunities for the CULTRD experience.

KEY INSIGHTS:

01.

Discovery starts with familiar tools.

DISCOVERY

02.

TRUST

People need confidence before trying somewhere unfamiliar.

03.

People want context and exploration, not just a location.

CULTURE

FROM INSIGHT

TO INTERFACE

With the core discovery needs defined, I began translating the research into a simple browsing experience. Early wireframes focused on creating a clear path from discovery to results and, ultimately, to the local businesses and experiences users wanted to explore.

TESTING THE EXPERIENCE

I tested the CULTRD prototype in Food, Shop, and Event to see how users found things. Participants could explore and compare options but wanted clearer next steps, like learning about a business, getting directions, or viewing event details. These results show where the experience should shift from discovery to action.
